Spyro speedrunner says a PC port of the original game is in the works, and it’s being made with ’no AI'

The original Spyro the Dragon is coming to PC through a fan-made port that will run natively on Windows 11, as confirmed by Spyro speedrunning specialist lumilaura. She tested the port and shared video evidence on X demonstrating the game running on the platform. The developers have emphasized the port is being created with “no AI,” addressing contemporary concerns about artificial intelligence in game development.

While players can access remade versions of all three original Spyro games through the Spyro Reignited Trilogy on Steam, this port will provide access to the original 1998 PlayStation 1 game in its native form. The development team has indicated that a release is likely coming soon, though no specific launch date has been announced.

This fan effort arrives amid a franchise resurgence. Developer Toys for Bob is currently working on Spyro: A Realm Beyond, the franchise’s first new mainline entry in nearly two decades. The combination of official remakes, an upcoming new game, and this community-driven port demonstrates sustained fan interest in the purple dragon mascot and highlights how fan ports preserve access to classic games when original hardware becomes obsolete and publishers decline to re-release older titles.
