New Star Wars game at risk as studio issues escalate
Developers at Quantic Dream have gone on strike in opposition to planned layoffs affecting 115 employees, asserting that the narrative-driven Star Wars Eclipse “cannot be finished” if the reductions proceed.
The strike occurred during a visit from Lucasfilm representatives tasked with assessing progress on the Star Wars game, which was announced at The Game Awards in December 2021. Since its announcement, Star Wars Eclipse has remained largely absent from public discourse, with minimal updates or announcements regarding development status.
The layoffs follow a recent high-profile failure. In February 2026, Quantic Dream launched Spellcasters Chronicles, a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) that failed to gain audience traction. The game was taken offline earlier this month, representing a significant setback for the studio.
Quantic Dream, known for narrative-driven titles including Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human, now faces internal conflict as workers attempt to prevent what they view as a damaging reduction in headcount. The strike represents escalating labor tensions at the studio and underscores uncertainty surrounding Star Wars Eclipse’s viability and completion timeline.
