Extended Cut of Backrooms Hits Theaters Soon With Additional 15 Minutes of ‘Theatrically Exclusive’ Footage After the Credits
The Backrooms is getting an extended theatrical release. A24 will debut “Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition” in theaters on July 3, featuring 15 minutes of new “theatrically exclusive” footage that won’t appear in home video or streaming releases. Rather than being distributed throughout the film, the additional footage will appear as post-credit bonus material directed by Kane Parsons, extending the overall runtime to just over two hours.
The extended edition was announced through listings on multiple theater chains, including AMC Theatres, though an official announcement from A24 or director Kane Parsons had not yet been made at the time of reporting. This theatrical-exclusive approach is increasingly common for major film releases seeking to drive audience engagement and justify repeat viewings.
Backrooms has been one of 2026’s most successful films, grossing over $330 million at the box office globally. The figure makes it A24’s highest-grossing film to date, demonstrating strong commercial appeal. The film’s success likely motivated the decision to release an extended cut, capitalizing on continued audience interest before the film’s inevitable transition to streaming and home video platforms later in the year.
