CD Projekt rebrands to CD Projekt Red

Polish video game company CD Projekt has officially rebranded itself as CD Projekt Red following a shareholder vote on June 23, 2026. The rebrand aims to unify the parent company’s name with its well-known development studio, CD Projekt Red, which is responsible for major franchises including The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077.

The company, founded in 1994 as a video game distributor, established the CD Projekt Red studio in 2002 to develop games based on The Witcher book series. Over the years, CD Projekt Red became the public-facing brand associated with the studio’s acclaimed titles, while the parent holding company retained the original CD Projekt name. Management cited the rebrand as a measure to “ensure consistency in the communication of the CD Projekt Red brand” and to better align the parent company with its core operational activities.

The rebrand creates a branding challenge: the parent company is now technically called CD Projekt Red Spółka Akcyjna (Spółka Akcyjna being Polish for joint-stock company), while the subsidiary studio retains the CD Projekt Red name. Both entities now operate under effectively the same brand, though with different legal designations, potentially creating confusion in communications and brand identification.

The decision consolidates the broader CD Projekt operations under a single unified brand, reflecting the company’s evolution from a distributor to primarily a game development studio.
