GTA 6 Seeing “Record” Orders On Xbox, Microsoft Claims
Microsoft has claimed that GTA 6 is seeing “record” preorders on Xbox Series X|S, responding to reports suggesting the game is significantly outselling on PlayStation 5. The statement came after IGN published data from its affiliate links indicating PS5 preorders were outpacing Xbox by an 8-to-1 ratio among its userbase.
In response, Microsoft disputed the IGN findings, stating that the data “doesn’t represent preorder data” and encouraged consumers to wait for official figures from Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive. “We’ve had record orders. People should wait for real data and not clicks on affiliate links,” Microsoft said in a statement to Windows Central.
The IGN report, while widely circulated, was based on internal data from affiliate links from its own userbase rather than official preorder numbers from the game’s publisher. Microsoft emphasized that this early, unofficial third-party information doesn’t provide a complete picture of actual preorder demand across platforms.
Despite the lack of specifics regarding exact preorder numbers, Microsoft’s decision to issue a public statement is notable, as the company rarely discloses sales information for its hardware and games in recent years. The statement underscores the competitive tension between Xbox and PlayStation platforms ahead of GTA 6’s highly anticipated release.
