New Koei Tecmo Game Project ‘Fuji’ Selected for Japanese Government Support Program

Koei Tecmo has quietly begun development on a new action game codenamed “Fuji,” revealed through its inclusion in Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) “IP360” government support initiative. The program, launched this year, provides financial backing and subsidies to Japanese developers creating original intellectual property in key cultural export sectors including video games, anime, and manga.

The project leverages Koei Tecmo’s established expertise in East Asian-themed visuals and action-oriented gameplay, consistent with the studio’s acclaimed franchises including Ninja Gaiden, Nioh, Dynasty Warriors, and Wo Long. Beyond Koei Tecmo, major publishers SEGA, Square Enix, and Konami have also been approved for IP360 funding, highlighting Japan’s strategic commitment to supporting large-scale game development and international competition.

No official details about Fuji’s platforms, scope, or release timeline have been announced. The discovery of the project through government documentation remains the only public confirmation of its existence, with “Fuji” serving as an internal development codename.
