Persona Netflix Adaptation Reportedly In The Works

Netflix is developing a live-action TV series adaptation of Atlus’ Persona franchise, marking another major expansion for the critically acclaimed RPG series beyond its existing anime, manga, and novel adaptations.

Christopher Monfette, writer and producer on Star Trek: Picard and 9-1-1, will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. The project brings together experienced game-to-screen talent: 21 Laps, the production company behind Stranger Things (founded by Shawn Levy), and Story Kitchen, which produces the Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise and has Tomb Raider, It Takes Two, and Vampire Survivors in development.

Additional executive producers include Story Kitchen’s Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson, plus Sega producer Toru Nakahara. Netflix declined to comment on the project.

Details remain limited regarding the adaptation’s direction. It’s unclear whether the series will adapt a particular Persona game or create an original story within the franchise’s universe. The Persona series is known for its stylish aesthetic, complex character development, and intricate narratives—elements that could translate effectively to live-action format, though adapting Japanese media for Western audiences presents documented challenges.

This project exemplifies the continued momentum in game-to-screen adaptations at major streaming platforms.
