Rainbow Six: Siege developers go on strike through July to protest mass layoffs and RTO policies at Ubisoft Barcelona

Developers at Ubisoft Barcelona, the support studio for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, are striking throughout July in protest of mass layoffs and return-to-office policies. The industrial action will occur every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from June 30th through July 17th.

The strike comes as Ubisoft announced plans to eliminate up to 380 positions across the company as part of a wider restructuring initiative. Ubisoft Barcelona specifically is being scaled down and refocused on Rainbow Six development, resulting in significant job losses at the studio.

The striking workers are demanding two key concessions: protection against future “collective dismissals” and the reinstatement of previously agreed-upon promotion packages that were rescinded as part of the restructuring process.

This action represents ongoing labour unrest within Ubisoft, with the developer facing mounting pressure over workplace conditions and employment practices. The strike reflects broader industry tensions around job security and work arrangements in the gaming sector, particularly as major publishers navigate economic challenges and strategic repositioning.
