Amid Steam Machine performance scrutiny, Valve removes ‘4K at 60FPS’ claim

Valve has quietly removed the ‘4K at 60FPS’ performance claim from the Steam Machine’s official product page, replacing it with ‘Up to 4K gaming with FSR 4.1’. The change, made without prior announcement, was noticed by users on forums and comes as the newly launched hardware device faces increased scrutiny over its capabilities.

As recently as February, Valve was actively promoting 4K at 60FPS as the expected performance standard for Steam Machine gaming. The softened language now frames 4K gaming as a potential rather than guaranteed capability, with reliance on FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) upscaling technology to achieve those resolutions.

The revision suggests the Steam Machine’s hardware may not reliably deliver the performance targets Valve initially promised. By backing away from definitive performance claims, Valve provides more realistic expectations for consumers while the device enters the market with its actual capabilities under public scrutiny.
