Virtua Fighter Crossroads gets a new trailer for the mysterious Bakunawa Killer - but who are they? Speculation begins
Virtua Fighter Crossroads, the new mainline entry in the classic fighting game series, unveiled a mysterious new playable character at Evo 2026 this weekend. The character, called the Bakunawa Killer, was revealed through a cinematic trailer that emphasized story moments alongside brief gameplay demonstrations.
The identity of this masked assassin remains a closely guarded secret. In the trailer, protagonist Cielo Salinas and returning fighter Pai Chan are shown pursuing the mysterious character. At one point, Pai Chan manages to knock off Bakunawa Killer’s mask, reacting with visible shock—but the reveal is kept from viewers, maintaining the character’s enigmatic status.
The reveal capitalizes on RGG Studio’s design philosophy for this reboot, which places narrative at the center of the experience. The story campaign appears to drive character introductions and world-building, moving beyond traditional fighting game exposition. This cinematic approach and the deliberate mystery around Bakunawa Killer’s identity has already sparked speculation among the fighting game community about who this masked fighter might be.
The reveal comes as part of a broader, carefully paced character roster announcement for the upcoming title. With story being such a focal point, future character reveals may similarly blend gameplay with narrative moments. The mysterious Bakunawa Killer’s debut has proven effective in generating discussion and intrigue ahead of the game’s release.
