Modern Warfare 4 Facebook ads want to make sure everyone understands this year’s Call of Duty won’t be on Xbox Game Pass
Xbox has reversed its commitment to day-one Call of Duty availability on Game Pass. After Modern Warfare 3 arrived nine months post-release in July 2024, Microsoft pledged that new Call of Duty titles would launch directly on the subscription service. Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 subsequently arrived at launch, reinforcing this promise. However, in April 2026, Xbox backed away from the agreement.
Future Call of Duty games, including Modern Warfare 4 (releasing October 23rd), will no longer arrive on Game Pass at launch. Instead, they will join the service approximately 9-12 months after release. The policy shift was announced alongside a price reduction for Game Pass Ultimate, signaling Xbox’s restructuring of its subscription model to prioritize premium release windows for blockbuster titles.
Xbox and Activision are actively advertising the change to manage casual player expectations and avoid the confusion surrounding previous releases. Call of Duty’s official Facebook account has been running targeted ads informing players that Modern Warfare 4 won’t be available on Game Pass at launch—a preemptive effort to mitigate backlash and clarify the new release strategy before launch.
