The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered’s physical Switch 2 release has the full game on a cartridge, and we’ve finally got a release date, too

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 11, 2026, both digitally and in a physical edition, Bethesda has confirmed.

The physical release will include the full base game on a cartridge, along with the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine expansion content. Unlike some recent high-profile releases, this is a proper cartridge—not a Game-Key Card containing only a download code. Additional content will still require downloading from the eShop.

Oblivion Remastered was among 2025’s biggest hits following a surprise launch, and has been highly anticipated for Switch 2 after being revealed during a February Nintendo Direct. The port utilizes Unreal Engine 5, positioning it as a more ambitious conversion than previous Elder Scrolls and Fallout console ports, including the earlier Skyrim and Fallout 4 Switch releases.

The Switch 2 port is being handled by porting studio Virtuos and represents the game’s arrival on Nintendo’s new hardware more than a year after its original release on PlayStation 5. According to reports, the original PS5 version and ports on other platforms have not received significant improvements or fixes during this time.
