Microsoft warns Windows 11 version 24H2 support is coming to an end for some devices soon: Here’s what that means and how you can stay secure

Microsoft has issued a warning to Windows 11 Home and Pro users that version 24H2 support is ending soon. The company has announced that the now two-year-old operating system version will reach end of support on October 13, 2026.

All Windows 11 releases include a standard support window of 24 months for consumer versions (Home and Pro) and 36 months for commercial editions. Since 24H2 first launched in 2024, it is now approaching the conclusion of its consumer support lifecycle.

Users currently running Windows 11 Home or Pro on version 24H2 will need to upgrade to a newer version of Windows 11 to maintain access to security updates and ongoing support from Microsoft. Continuing to use an unsupported operating system version leaves systems vulnerable to security vulnerabilities and without access to critical patches.

This represents a routine part of Microsoft’s operating system lifecycle management strategy, where each major release receives a predetermined period of support before users are required to upgrade. The October 13, 2026 deadline gives users several months to plan their upgrades and transition to a supported version before support officially ends.
