‘There’s something we’ve been dying to tell you’: The best city builder of 2023 is getting a survival game set in the same world
Eremite Games, the developer behind the acclaimed roguelike city-builder Against the Storm, has announced a new survival game set in the same universe. The studio revealed the project through a brief in-engine video and dev diary, showing two hooded adventurers moving through rainy woodlands toward a log cabin, suggesting the game will feature co-op multiplayer gameplay.
The new survival title is still in early stages of development, with the studio describing it as “slowly taking shape.” While few details have been officially shared beyond the prototype footage, the setting is described as a “bleak fantasy world”—suggesting the game will explore the darker survival aspects of Against the Storm’s universe, contrasting with the city-building focus of the original.
Against the Storm was released following its early access period and was widely praised, being recognized as the best city-builder of 2023. The studio began winding down active development on Against the Storm in December following its completion, making space for this new survival-focused project.
The announcement has been kept under wraps until now, with the development team noting they have been eager to share the news. While a potential sequel has been mentioned as a possibility, this survival game represents the studio’s immediate focus and will come first.
