Doom: The Dark Ages | Revelations Spear Rules!

Id Software has unveiled major details about the Revelations DLC expansion for Doom: The Dark Ages, the medieval-themed first-person shooter that launched in May 2025. The expansion features a substantial 10-12 hour campaign, representing id Software’s first major endgame content for the franchise.

The centerpiece of Revelations is a new weapon called the Chain Spear, which functions as both an offensive and defensive tool—continuing the game’s distinctive left-hand mechanic. Like the base game’s shield system, the Chain Spear is wielded in the player’s left hand and is used to exploit enemy weaknesses and create opportunities for damage. The new weapon is essential for endgame content that comprises approximately 40% of the expansion’s total playtime.

Beyond the new campaign featuring additional story missions and gameplay, Revelations introduces a dedicated endgame system—a first for id Software’s typically campaign-focused Doom titles. This endgame component sets the expansion apart from previous id Software releases and aims to provide extended replayability for players seeking post-campaign challenges.

Director Hugo Martin emphasized the expansion’s focus on fast-flowing combat, positioning it as a bridge between Doom: The Dark Ages and the studio’s acclaimed Doom Eternal. The original Doom: The Dark Ages was well-received at launch, earning a 9/10 from some outlets and an 83 Metacritic score. The Revelations DLC builds on that foundation with substantial new content arriving more than a year after the base game’s release.
