Mario Kart World gets two new Knockout Tour routes and a new Photo Mode feature in latest update
Nintendo released update 1.7.0 for Mario Kart World on Switch 2, bringing significant new content to the platform’s flagship launch title. The update adds two new Knockout Tour routes—Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally—expanding the available courses in this competitive game mode.
Drill Rally connects Wario Shipyard to Bowser’s Castle, while Boomerang Rally runs between Salty Salty Speedway and Whistlestop Summit. These additions increase the total number of available Knockout Tour routes from eight to ten. It’s important to note that these are route combinations rather than entirely new tracks; Knockout Tour challenges players to race through six different existing courses in a single extended race, with elimination checkpoints at five stages. Players who finish in the bottom four at each checkpoint face elimination.
The update also introduces new Photo Mode functionality, allowing players to use their collected stickers in creative compositions. This marks the first substantial content update for Mario Kart World since its launch alongside Switch 2, addressing long-standing requests for new material. The game, which comes bundled with many Switch 2 consoles, had been without meaningful new content for approximately one year.
Nintendo has indicated that additional content is planned for the future, suggesting ongoing support for the title. The update is available for download immediately for all players.
