Deadpool: Samurai and other Marvel manga are being removed from storefronts

Shueisha and Walt Disney Japan have terminated their publishing contract for Marvel manga, with the agreement officially ending on September 30. Beginning September 28, Shueisha will systematically remove all Marvel-themed manga from digital storefronts over a three-day window, while also ceasing all physical print sales. The termination was finalized several months ago, though details about the actual removal process and timeline are only now being made public.

The affected titles include Deadpool: Samurai, Spider-Man: Kizuna, Spider-Man: Octo Girl, Secret Reverse, and Marvel x Shonen Jump Plus Super Collaboration, with the main series each comprising four volumes. These represent a significant portion of Marvel’s manga offerings in Japan, distributed through Shueisha’s publishing network.

This dissolution marks the end of a major partnership between one of Japan’s largest media publishers and The Walt Disney Company, effectively ending years of localized Marvel manga distribution in the Japanese market. Consumers will have only a three-day window during the final week of September to purchase these titles from digital storefronts before they become permanently unavailable. The rapid delisting timeline gives readers minimal opportunity to complete their collections.
