Project Hail Mary Is Coming to Prime Video This Friday
Project Hail Mary is coming to Prime Video on Friday, July 3, Amazon announced this week. The science fiction film, adapted from Andy Weir’s 2021 novel of the same name—the same author who wrote The Martian—stars Ryan Gosling as astronaut Ryland Grace.
The film has proven to be one of the biggest movies of 2026 following its theatrical release on March 20. After spending more than 50 days in theaters, it became available to stream on MGM+ on June 18, a move that generated confusion among viewers unfamiliar with Amazon’s lesser-known streaming service.
The expansion to Prime Video significantly broadens accessibility, as Prime Video’s subscriber base vastly outnumbers MGM+. Amazon MGM Studios, the production company behind the film, announced the news through a promotional video clip released on Prime Video’s YouTube channel. The clip features Gosling’s character excitedly repeating a line from Rocky, accompanied by the tagline “Having a Moment.”
This marks the film’s expansion beyond its initial exclusive MGM+ window, making it available to Prime Video’s much larger audience. The July 3 release date coincides with the US Independence Day weekend, offering viewers convenient holiday streaming options for the sci-fi adventure.
