PS5’s latest firmware update just started rolling out, here’s what you need to know

Sony has begun rolling out PS5 firmware update version 26.04-13.42.00, a minor system software patch available for both the base PS5 and PS5 Pro models. The update, which started appearing on July 1, is approximately 1.2 GB in size and is being distributed in phased waves to users.

According to the official patch notes, the update focuses on general improvements with Sony confirming that it “improves system software performance and stability.” This mirrors the approach of recent PS5 updates, which have been relatively minor in scope.

The last significant PS5 system update arrived in April, which introduced message-reaction emojis to improve the user-friendliness of the messaging feature. In comparison, this latest update makes even fewer additions to the console’s functionality, concentrating instead on back-end optimizations and system reliability enhancements.
