Slitherine acquires Warhammer Blood Bowl licence from troubled French publisher Nacon
Slitherine Software has acquired the Warhammer Blood Bowl video game licence, publishing rights, and back catalogue from Nacon, which filed for insolvency in February. The acquisition secures the franchise’s future, with Cyanide Studio continuing as the developer. Slitherine committed to “long-term continuity of development,” active support, and ongoing expansion of the game based on community feedback.
The deal includes the previously announced new Warhammer Blood Bowl title that was in jeopardy following Nacon’s collapse. Slitherine, known for publishing strategy and wargame titles including the Panzer Corps series and Warhammer 40,000 games such as Battlesector and Gladius, is well-positioned to develop the fantasy football franchise. The publisher’s experience with both Warhammer properties and strategy gaming aligns well with Blood Bowl’s niche audience.
Nacon’s insolvency created uncertainty for several franchises including GreedFall 2 and RoboCop. The acquisition represents a positive outcome for the Blood Bowl community, preventing the franchise from being abandoned or stuck in development limbo. By securing the back catalogue alongside future development rights, Slitherine has positioned itself to revitalize the series with fresh support and long-term vision.
