The new Company of Heroes is a wave-based defense game that throws prospective generals straight into the action

Relic Entertainment has announced Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand, a new entry in the Company of Heroes franchise launching later this month. Rather than continuing the real-time strategy gameplay that defined the original series, Final Stand pivots to a wave-based defense format. The game challenges players to survive escalating rounds of increasingly difficult enemy attacks, featuring powerful boss encounters and dynamic battlefield events that create unpredictable challenges.

While Final Stand departs from the traditional RTS formula, Relic has maintained the “beloved tactical foundation” that made the Company of Heroes games renowned for strategic depth. The wave defense mechanics are complemented by roguelite progression systems, suggesting players will gradually unlock new abilities, units, or strategies across multiple playthroughs—a design philosophy becoming increasingly common in modern strategy games.

This announcement comes alongside news of Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition, a remake of the original game created to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary. The Definitive Edition will give longtime fans a modernized experience of the classic RTS, while Final Stand offers a fresh take on tactical gameplay for both newcomers and veterans.
