Creator-distributed discount codes drive massive uptake of game storefronts, according to new Tebex data

Creator-distributed discount codes are proving to be a significant driver of new customer acquisition for game storefronts, according to new research by payment platform Tebex. Analysis of over 1.5 million creator-backed transactions conducted by 635,000 players over approximately two years reveals that 80.4% of players using creator codes made their first-ever purchase through these offers. The data underscores the effectiveness of creator marketing in converting new users, with roughly half of first-time buyers completing their purchase on the same day they joined the platform.

However, Tebex’s findings indicate that this growth is heavily concentrated among a small number of top-tier content creators, whose outsized influence drives the majority of creator code adoption. This concentration suggests that while creator codes represent a valuable marketing channel for game storefronts, the benefit remains asymmetrically distributed across the creator ecosystem.

The research highlights the growing importance of influencer partnerships and creator economy strategies in driving revenue for digital game platforms. For game storefronts competing in an increasingly crowded market, creator codes represent a relatively low-cost acquisition channel that leverages existing communities and trusted personalities to acquire new customers.
