‘It’s Not a Comedy’ — Danny McBride Details New G.I. Joe Movie, Aiming to Film in 2027
Danny McBride has revealed development details on his upcoming G.I. Joe film project at Paramount Pictures. In an appearance on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, McBride confirmed that he has completed a script that has earned the studio’s approval, with production targeted to begin in 2027. Several notable actors are already in early negotiations to join the cast.
McBride described the film’s plot, explaining that it will follow Duke and a group of G.I. Joe operatives as they operate in Springfield, a seemingly ordinary town that is secretly controlled by the terrorist organization Cobra. The narrative centers on the conflict that unfolds when the Joes uncover this hidden threat.
Despite his well-known background in comedy, McBride emphasized that this film will be a suspenseful action movie rather than a comedy. He expressed a deep personal affection for the G.I. Joe franchise, which is motivating his creative approach to the project. This marks a tonal shift from some audience expectations given McBride’s filmography, but he stressed the importance of delivering an action-driven narrative grounded in the spy-thriller elements of the franchise.
