‘Fewer than 10’ employees remain at Thick as Thieves studio following another round of layoffs

OtherSide Entertainment, developer of Thick as Thieves, has laid off 18 employees in its second major round of cuts in two weeks. According to Game Developer, the studio now employs “fewer than 10” people following the dismissals.

The latest layoffs compound damage from a previous round just two weeks earlier, when the studio dismissed 17 employees following the cancellation of an unannounced game in development. Combined, the two rounds have significantly decimated the studio’s workforce.

The remaining skeleton crew is focused solely on maintaining updates for Thick as Thieves, a single-player immersive sim launched in early access. A studio representative stated there are “currently no plans for the studio to work on any future games,” signaling an uncertain trajectory for the developer.

The rep attributed the studio’s struggles to its core identity, noting that “OtherSide’s DNA is built on immersive sim games that have lengthy development cycles.” This business model—requiring substantial resources and extended timelines—appears incompatible with the studio’s current financial position and the challenging conditions facing game development in 2026.

With minimal staff and no announced future projects beyond live-service updates, OtherSide Entertainment faces an existential question about its viability as an ongoing concern.
