Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is now streaming on Hulu. The film is framed as a deliberate contrast to “competence porn”—a term coined by producer John Rogers in 2009 to describe entertainment focused on characters excelling at their jobs. Examples of competence porn include the heist series Leverage, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Ocean’s Eleven, and Project Hail Mary.
Unlike these examples, Ready or Not 2 takes the opposite approach: it centers on a squadron of characters who are fundamentally incompetent and forced to operate outside any area of expertise. Rather than depicting mastery and skill, the film builds its narrative tension and humor around characters stumbling through situations for which they are fundamentally unprepared. This inversion offers a different kind of entertainment value, relying on chaos and desperation rather than the satisfaction of watching professionals execute flawlessly.
