Valheim 1.0 won’t update the survival game’s sparse oceans, reveal devs Iron Gate, who add it’s “too soon to say” how long post-release updates will continue

Valheim is transitioning from Early Access to full 1.0 release this September, with developer Iron Gate announcing key details about the update. The centerpiece of the 1.0 launch is the introduction of the Deep North biome, which Iron Gate has confirmed will be the game’s final major biome. While the update will bring new content to other areas of Valheim, Iron Gate has ruled out ocean updates—a frequently requested feature by the community. The sparse ocean environments will remain largely unchanged in the release version.

The move to 1.0 will also include a price increase for the co-op Viking survival game. Regarding post-release support, Iron Gate declined to commit to a timeline for future updates, stating it is “too soon to say” how long the game will continue receiving patches and content after its official launch. This leaves the duration and scope of live service support uncertain for players.

Valheim has built a substantial player base during its Early Access period. The announcement reflects Iron Gate’s development priorities, with the studio focusing development resources on the Deep North biome and other improvements across the game world rather than overhauling ocean systems.
