2025’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine remaster that was inexplicably exclusive to PC and Xbox seemingly on its way to PS5 and Switch 2
The Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - Master Crafted Edition, a remaster of the acclaimed 2011 third-person action game, appears to be expanding beyond its initial platform exclusivity. Released in June 2025 for PC and Xbox Series X/S exclusively, the game may soon launch on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, based on evidence from the ESRB rating board.
The original Space Marine was published by THQ in 2011 across PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. The Master Crafted Edition, developed by SneakyBox and published by Sega (who retained the rights to the franchise), significantly enhanced the classic with 4K resolution support, modernized controls, a revamped interface, improved character models, and remastered audio.
The original PC and Xbox exclusivity proved puzzling to observers, particularly given the game’s day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass. While Game Pass exclusivity does not typically prevent multi-platform releases, the initial announcement omitted PlayStation and Nintendo platforms entirely.
Evidence of the broader platform rollout emerged when the ESRB rating board—the North American video game ratings organization—listed the game for PS5 and Switch 2 alongside its existing platforms. The listing has since been removed from public view, likely indicating an unplanned leak of upcoming release announcements. This suggests Sega plans to bring the remaster to additional platforms, though no official announcement has been made regarding release dates or further details for the new versions.
