Microsoft Edge finally lets you sign in with a Google account

Microsoft has rolled out a new feature in Microsoft Edge that allows users to sign in with their Google accounts. The update, which began with version 150.0.4078.48, enables users to seamlessly migrate their bookmarks, browsing history, and other synchronized content from Google Chrome or Google accounts directly into Edge. This represents a notable shift in Microsoft’s strategy to make Edge more competitive with Google Chrome by removing friction from the switching process.

The feature is currently available as part of a controlled rollout, meaning it may take time to reach all users across different regions and devices. The capability was previously announced through the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, providing advance notice to tech enthusiasts and industry watchers. By allowing Google account integration, Microsoft addresses one of the primary barriers users face when considering switching browsers—the challenge of transferring their accumulated browsing data and preferences.

This update aligns with Microsoft’s broader effort to improve Edge’s appeal and functionality relative to Chrome, which has long dominated the browser market. The addition of Google account sign-in demonstrates Microsoft’s willingness to support competitor account integration, a pragmatic approach to reducing switching costs for potential users. The feature is expected to roll out gradually to all Edge users globally.
