Five More Games Have Quietly Been Added To Xbox Game Pass Essential
Five games have recently been added to Xbox Game Pass Essential, Microsoft’s lowest-priced subscription tier. Four of these titles became available on July 1st, 2026: Costume Quest 2 and the complete Shadowrun Trilogy consisting of Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun Dragonfall, and Shadowrun Hong Kong. The article does not detail the fifth addition, though it confirms all five games have joined the service in recent days.
These additions follow a pattern of quiet updates to the service, continuing from a more significant expansion in May 2026 when nine games were added to Game Pass Essential. This ongoing growth of the Essential tier’s library reflects Microsoft’s commitment to maintaining the value proposition of their most affordable subscription option.
The Shadowrun Trilogy’s inclusion bolsters the service’s strategy RPG offerings, while Costume Quest 2 adds a charming adventure experience. Game Pass Essential remains positioned as the budget-friendly entry point to Xbox Game Pass, distinct from the higher-tier Standard and Ultimate options.
