One of our favorite Half-Life 2 mods is getting a stealth game prequel where you’re a Combine assassin preying on the human resistance

The Entropy: Zero mod series, a cult classic that reimagines Half-Life 2 from the perspective of the antagonistic Combine faction, is expanding with a new stealth-focused prequel titled Entropy: Zero 2 - Progenitors.

The game marks a notable departure from previous entries by replacing the standard Combine trooper protagonist with a specialized black ops assassin character. This character design appears to draw inspiration from the elite ninjas featured in the original Half-Life game, positioning the experience as particularly appealing to fans of immersive sim classics like Thief and Deus Ex.

Progenitors is set at an indeterminate point following the Seven Hour War—the cataclysmic event in which the Combine conquered Earth. The narrative centers on the player character’s mission to eliminate a mysterious target known as the Progenitor, seemingly a foundational figure in Combine military science involved in the creation or derivation of standard Combine soldiers.

The excerpt hints at potential story connections to Half-Life’s broader universe, including a possible tie-in involving Adrian Shephard, the protagonist of the original game’s expansion pack. This suggests the developers are weaving together threads from across the franchise to create a cohesive alternate perspective on its lore.
