Final Fantasy 15, and others, could come to Nintendo Switch 2 – “it’s not entirely impossible”
Square Enix has hinted that a Nintendo Switch 2 port of Final Fantasy 15 is “not entirely impossible,” though the company acknowledged significant technical challenges during a recent shareholders meeting.
When an attendee asked whether the success of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Nintendo Switch 2 meant other mainline Final Fantasy titles could follow suit, particularly requesting a Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy 15, an unnamed Square Enix representative responded cautiously. The company stated it’s not out of the question, but emphasized there are “certain hardware constraints” that would need to be overcome to “faithfully replicate” the original game on Nintendo’s next-generation console.
Final Fantasy 15, released in 2016, is a substantial open-world action RPG with demanding graphics and performance requirements. Successfully porting it to Switch 2 would require significant optimization work while maintaining visual fidelity and performance standards.
The fact that Final Fantasy 7 Remake has already reached Switch 2 suggests Square Enix has developed porting expertise, though the two games present different technical requirements. The noncommittal response represents neither a firm commitment nor outright refusal, fitting Square Enix’s cautious approach to port announcements.
The statement leaves the door open for fans hoping to play Final Fantasy 15 on Nintendo’s portable-home hybrid console while setting realistic expectations about the technical obstacles involved. It reflects both the potential of Switch 2 hardware and the ongoing challenges developers face when adapting complex, resource-intensive titles to Nintendo’s platform.
