Here’s What’s Going On With Marvel’s Blade And Its Developer Amid Xbox “Reset”
Microsoft has initiated a major restructuring of its Xbox gaming division, affecting numerous studios and projects through 3,200 layoffs, studio sales, and independence transitions. The future of Marvel’s Blade—developed by Arkane Lyon—remains uncertain amid this upheaval.
Arkane Lyon, the French developer behind the acclaimed Dishonored series, is undergoing a mandatory consultation process with its local Works Council as required by French labor law. This review will determine whether the studio will be sold, closed, or continue operating under Microsoft.
While Marvel’s Blade has not been officially canceled, reports indicate the project has been delayed internally and is running over budget. The game has maintained relative silence, with its future now contingent on Arkane’s consultation outcome.
Arkane’s founder Raphaël Colantonio humorously responded to the announcement by asking Xbox CEO Asha Sharma “how much?” to purchase the studio, though he clarified he was “asking for a friend.” The studio recently underwent leadership changes when Jerk Gustafsson from MachineGames assumed the top role—a development that initially appeared positive but is now overshadowed by broader corporate restructuring.
French employment law requires an extended consultation period, leaving Arkane’s status and Marvel’s Blade’s release prospects in limbo during an uncertain period for the Xbox gaming division.
