Black Ops 6 Finally Free of Infamous Call of Duty PS5 App

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will no longer require the notoriously large Call of Duty app to play on PlayStation platforms starting July 7th, 2026. The game is transitioning to a completely standalone download, freeing users from the storage demands associated with the app’s large install footprint.

The Call of Duty app has long been a point of frustration for PlayStation players, as it takes up significant storage space and has been required to access multiple Call of Duty titles. By making Black Ops 6 standalone, players can delete the app if they’re no longer playing other Call of Duty games, reclaiming valuable storage on their PS5 or PS4 consoles.

The change represents a positive shift in how the game is distributed on PlayStation, allowing for a cleaner installation experience without the overhead of the central app. This move also enables the game to receive its Platinum Trophy on PlayStation platforms, indicating full trophy support independent of the app ecosystem.
