Google’s AI Studio lead has vibe coded a port of Command & Conquer for iOS

Anthropic’s newly deployed Claude Fable 5 AI model has been successfully used to port Command & Conquer: Generals – Zero Hour to iOS, complete with functional touch controls. The achievement was announced on July 4 by Ammaar Reshi, lead of product and design at Google AI Studio, highlighting a practical real-world application of advanced AI in game development and preservation.

The port required Fable 5 to work with the game’s source code, integrate insights from previous port efforts, and incorporate human guidance to reach a functional iOS version. Rather than building from scratch, the project leveraged The Super Hackers’ existing Linux and macOS port as a foundation, with Reshi noting the effort “had a chain of giants to stand on” through its use of prior modernization work.

The successful port demonstrates significant capability from Fable 5, which only recently became available following temporary US access restrictions on Anthropic’s models. By automating much of the technical adaptation work needed to transition a mouse-and-keyboard strategy game to mobile, the AI handled complex software engineering challenges while allowing humans to oversee the implementation and touch control design.

This achievement underscores the growing intersection of AI and game preservation, showing how modern language models can facilitate bringing classic titles to new platforms and audiences with minimal manual recoding.
