Marvel Tokon unplayable in 132 countries, including Evo host Morocco

Sony’s upcoming fighting game Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will be unavailable for purchase in 132 countries, according to Steam backend data discovered over the weekend. The restrictions primarily affect nations across Africa and Southwest Asia, largely overlapping with PlayStation Network’s contentious account-linking policies on PC.

Sony has not officially confirmed the regional restrictions, but Steam metadata reveals the extensive blockade. The limitation appears to stem from the company’s PlayStation Network account linking requirements for PC players—a controversial policy that previously frustrated Helldivers 2 players when Sony temporarily implemented it in 2024 before disabling it due to technical issues. It appears Sony has implemented similar restrictions with Marvel Tōkon.

The timing creates an awkward situation, particularly given that Evo, one of the world’s premier esports tournaments for fighting games, is being hosted in Morocco—one of the affected nations. Players in the host country won’t be able to legally purchase the game through Steam.

The move continues Sony’s recent pattern of controversial PC release decisions. The publisher recently announced plans to cease physical game releases on PlayStation, and this regional availability restriction adds to ongoing criticism from the gaming community regarding cross-regional access and platform policies.
