Microsoft Teams just made it easier to shut down Copilot and other AI tools

Microsoft is streamlining controls for AI features within Teams, making it easier for meeting organizers to disable artificial intelligence tools during meetings. The update targets three specific AI capabilities: Copilot, Facilitator, and Intelligent Recap—features designed to enhance meeting productivity but that haven’t been universally welcomed by all users.

The simplified controls address growing feedback from users who prefer meetings without AI assistance. Rather than burying these options deep within settings, Microsoft is making the toggles more accessible and prominent for those who want to manage AI presence in their meetings.

However, the ability to disable these features is restricted to licensed meeting organizers. Participants without organizing privileges won’t have the option to turn off Copilot, Facilitator, or Intelligent Recap independently, meaning meeting organizers maintain control over the AI experience for all attendees.

Microsoft has confirmed a phased rollout schedule for these updated controls, beginning in early July 2026 and expected to reach all users by mid-July 2026. This timeline represents a slight delay from the company’s original June target, though the feature remains on track for a summer 2026 deployment.
