Pokémon GO Developer Niantic Changes Its Name And Logo

Niantic, the developer behind the phenomenally successful mobile game Pokémon GO, has been rebranded following its acquisition by Scopely. The studio is now known as Scopely Explore, and has updated its logo as part of the change.

The rebrand comes after Scopely, a subsidiary of Savvy Games Group, acquired Niantic for $3.5 billion in March 2025. This acquisition represented a major transaction in the gaming industry, with Niantic’s popular live-service title serving as a significant asset. The name change from Niantic to Scopely Explore reflects the studio’s integration into the larger Scopely publishing organization.

Pokémon GO, which launched in 2016 and has remained one of mobile gaming’s most successful and revenue-generating titles, will continue to be developed under the newly named studio. The rebranding aligns with broader industry consolidation, where larger publishers acquire independent studios to expand their portfolios and secure valuable intellectual properties.

The name change represents a transition period for the studio as it operates under its new corporate parent while continuing to support and develop its flagship title.
