ChatGPT Fiction Prompt Researchers Accidentally Stumble Upon a Super User Repeatedly Requesting Stories Featuring Pregnant Characters From Doki Doki Literature Club

Academic researchers studying how people use ChatGPT to generate fiction accidentally discovered an unusual pattern while analyzing the WildChat dataset. Scholars from the University of Washington and University of Colorado Boulder, conducting research for their study “AI Fiction in the Wild,” identified a super user who repeatedly requested stories featuring pregnant characters from the visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club.

The discovery emerged from analysis of WildChat, a collection of over half a million anonymous English-language conversations with ChatGPT. While investigating broader trends in AI-generated fiction, the researchers stumbled upon this prolific user’s consistent pattern of requests. The finding highlights unexpected use cases and user behaviors that emerge when large AI datasets are examined in detail.

The research was spotted by gaming publication Automaton and reported by ITMedia, drawing attention to the quirky intersection of AI language models, fan fiction communities, and niche gaming fandoms. The incident underscores how large-scale dataset analysis can uncover surprising patterns in user behavior, and raises questions about content moderation, user privacy in research contexts, and the diverse ways people interact with AI systems for creative purposes.
