Scopely helps fund the new studio from the mind behind Umamusume: Pretty Derby

Scopely, the publisher behind Monopoly Go, has announced a strategic investment in Studio Auknow, a newly established game development studio founded by the former director of Umamusume: Pretty Derby. While Scopely did not disclose the investment amount, the company framed the deal as part of its long-term strategy to deepen its presence in the Japanese games market.

According to Keiichi Kawai, president of Scopely Japan, the investment reflects confidence in Japanese creators and their pivotal role in shaping the global gaming industry. Scopely describes the partnership as focused on “creating next-generation IP through collaboration with exceptional creators.”

The move underscores Scopely’s strategy to invest in established talent with proven track records in the Japanese market. By backing the former director of Umamusume: Pretty Derby—a successful mobile title—Scopely aims to develop new intellectual properties while leveraging the developer’s expertise and industry reputation.
