Star Wars Legacy gives Rey and Leia the story that Rise of Skywalker never could

Madeleine Roux’s novel Star Wars: Legacy explores a narrative gap in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, focusing on the relationship between Leia Organa and Rey that felt underdeveloped in The Rise of Skywalker. Set between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, the novel follows this master-apprentice duo through a story the films never adequately told.

Lucasfilm has been systematically exploring the timeline gaps left by the controversial sequel trilogy through expanded universe content, including novels and comics featuring characters like Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron, and Finn. Roux, known for her science fiction, gothic fantasy, and paranormal storytelling, brings her narrative expertise to address one of the sequel trilogy’s most criticized shortcomings: the insufficient development of key character relationships and story beats.
