The Talos Principle 3 creators reveal new details about its hopeful grand finale

Croteam, the developer behind the Serious Sam franchise, is working on The Talos Principle 3, described as the series’ grand finale. The announcement comes 14 years after the original The Talos Principle launched in 2012, establishing the puzzle game series as a philosophical counterpoint to titles like Portal.

The original Talos Principle distinguished itself by pairing challenging puzzles with a hard sci-fi narrative that explored themes of humanity and artificial intelligence. Rather than embracing gaming’s typical dystopian approach to AI, the game offered an optimistic perspective on the relationship between humans and artificial beings. This thematic focus on philosophical questions, combined with its complex puzzle design, helped the series carve out a unique identity in the puzzle game genre.

With The Talos Principle 3 now in development, Croteam is creating the trilogy’s concluding chapter in what the studio describes as a “very different context” from its predecessors—a detail that takes on particular significance given contemporary conversations about artificial intelligence in the gaming industry and beyond.
