Amazon has a slop problem and this extension cleans it up

Amazon’s search results have become increasingly cluttered with low-quality knockoff products and suspiciously-branded items, a phenomenon users refer to as “slop.” The issue sees legitimate products buried beneath waves of items with capitalized nonsense brand names seemingly sourced from platforms like Temu or AliExpress.

When searching for common items such as hairdryers or phone cases, users encounter multiple identical products listed under different fake brand names—DRYSON, BLOWY, SKIBIDI RIZZ—all mimicking legitimate brands like Dyson. This flood of counterfeit and low-quality merchandise makes it increasingly difficult for consumers to find authentic products from reputable manufacturers.

In response to this growing frustration, a Chrome extension called Knockoff Shopping has been developed to filter out these problematic listings and clean up Amazon search results. The extension aims to improve the shopping experience by removing or deprioritizing suspicious products and fake brands, helping users locate genuine items more easily.

This problem reflects broader concerns about e-commerce platform quality control and the influx of cheap overseas products that have become prevalent on major shopping websites. As third-party sellers flood Amazon with low-quality alternatives, the platform’s search functionality has deteriorated, prompting users to seek third-party solutions to restore functionality. The Knockoff Shopping extension represents a grassroots attempt to address what many see as Amazon’s failure to adequately police its marketplace for fraudulent and low-quality listings.
