Niantic’s games team has rebranded as Scopely Explore

Scopely has announced a rebrand of the Niantic games team—the studio behind mobile gaming hits including Pokémon Go, Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter Now—as Scopely Explore. The rebrand represents an internal reorganization rather than a formal spin-out or subsidiary creation.

Scopely, which completed its acquisition of Niantic for $3.5 billion last year, described Scopely Explore as a “mission-driven team” operating within the broader company structure. According to the announcement, the new branding reflects the unifying philosophy that has guided the Niantic teams since their founding.

The name Scopely Explore emphasizes the exploration theme that runs through the portfolio of games developed by the team. As Scopely noted, exploration is central to the gaming experiences they create—whether through encouraging players to discover new locations, fostering connections between communities, or providing novel ways to experience the world. The rebrand underscores this core value as the defining characteristic of the team’s mission going forward.
