This free software aims to turn Sony headphones into a head tracker for ‘200+ PC games’
Sony’s premium headphones, including the WH-1000XM5 and WF-1000XM5 models, feature built-in motion sensors designed for the company’s spatial audio technology. On PC, however, this hardware typically sits unused. A developer known as NSlattery43 has changed that by creating free, open-source software that repurposes these sensors for head tracking across more than 200 PC games.
The software enables head movement-based camera control in popular titles including Microsoft Flight Simulator, Elite Dangerous, and Assetto Corsa. By capturing real-time orientation data from the motion sensors in compatible Sony headphones and earbuds, the application converts physical head movements into in-game camera adjustments, enhancing immersion and control without additional hardware investment.
Released on GitHub, the software is freely available for anyone to use, modify, or improve upon. Its open-source nature means the developer community can continue refining and expanding its capabilities. This initiative transforms existing gaming-adjacent hardware into a viable head-tracking solution at no additional cost, making advanced motion-control gaming more accessible to PC players who already own compatible Sony audio devices.
