16-year-old MMO Star Trek Online is moving forward by tinkering with the past, unearthing and remaking one of its oldest storylines—and you can play it right now
Star Trek Online, Cryptic Studios’ 16-year-old MMO, is revitalizing one of its foundational storylines with a complete remake of the 2010 Klingon War arc, now playable for current players. The original arc centered on peace negotiations between the Federation and Klingon Empire, featuring Miral Paris, a crucial character in the narrative who served as both a Federation officer and the Kuvah’magh—a prophesied figure destined to restore Klingon glory.
The character’s journey was rooted in Star Trek’s existing canon, as Miral is the daughter of Voyager’s Tom Paris and B’Elanna Torres. However, Miral disappeared from the game around 2018 when Cryptic Studios undertook significant updates to the tutorial and launched new seasonal content, effectively removing one of the arc’s most important narrative elements.
With this remake initiative, the studio is addressing that loss by restoring and reimagining the Klingon War storyline, bringing Miral Paris back into play. The project reflects a broader approach to live-service game development that acknowledges the importance of preserving and respecting foundational content while still moving the game forward. Players can now experience the revamped arc, which balances nostalgia with fresh developments, demonstrating how long-running MMOs can maintain engagement by revisiting their past while maintaining momentum.
