EWC 2026 Valorant Playoffs Set After Group Stage Upsets
The Esports World Cup 2026 Valorant tournament’s group stage has concluded with the eight-team playoff bracket now set, highlighted by several major upsets that reshaped expectations for the competition. The group stage revealed significant shifts in regional balance, with four of the five EMEA representatives successfully advancing to the playoffs.
The most notable shock came from Valorant Masters London runners-up Paper Rex, who failed to advance despite their recent strong performance. The team’s elimination marks a significant upset in a group stage that challenged several preseason favorites, becoming the defining surprise of the tournament’s opening phase.
The confirmed quarter-final matchups see 100 Thieves facing MIBR.LOS, Team Vitality competing against Nongshim RedForce, Team Heretics meeting BBL Esports, and Gentle Mates taking on NRG. The playoff bracket reflects the continued strength of EMEA representation while demonstrating that established power rankings proved unreliable predictors of group stage performance.
The tournament continues to showcase the fluctuating competitive landscape of professional Valorant, where regional strength varies significantly and established contenders cannot be guaranteed advancement in high-pressure group formats.
