New Dragonlance novel from Weis and Hickman gives us a first look at Huma and Magius

Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, the co-creators of the Dragonlance setting for Dungeons & Dragons, have returned to pen a new fantasy novel. Dragonlance: War Wizard, published by Random House Worlds, marks the first installment in a brand-new trilogy and will release on August 4, 2026.

Weis and Hickman first brought Dragonlance to life in 1984 with Dragons of Autumn Twilight, which introduced readers and players to the fantasy world of Krynn. What began as a D&D campaign setting evolved into game modules and a literary saga that has captivated audiences for decades. The authors have since written more than 30 novels set in the Dragonlance universe, establishing themselves as architects of one of fantasy literature’s most beloved worlds.

The new novel features characters Huma and Magius, marking a fresh exploration of Krynn’s lore. While the authors have crafted numerous epics throughout their careers, War Wizard represents their latest creative endeavor in returning to the setting that made them literary titans.

This release continues the enduring legacy of Dragonlance, which remains one of the most successful fantasy franchises born from tabletop gaming. The trilogy promises to expand the rich mythology of Krynn while introducing readers both old and new to the world Weis and Hickman helped create over four decades ago.
