2026 Emmys snub Dropout’s Game Changer & Very Important People

Dropout, the streaming platform that emerged from College Humor, has been shut out of the 2026 Emmy Awards despite growing prominence in the entertainment industry. The platform submitted Game Changer, hosted by CEO Sam Reich, and Very Important People, hosted by Vic Michaelis, across 11 categories for consideration.

Game Changer has become a marquee title for Dropout, now in its eighth season. The comedy game show features contestants playing games without knowing the rules, and has achieved significant cultural traction—recent episodes have drawn crowds large enough to sell out Madison Square Garden. Very Important People represents the platform’s diverse slate of original content.

Despite the submissions’ popularity and Dropout’s broader success as a home for acclaimed comedians and successful productions, the Television Academy did not nominate either show when revealing the 2026 Emmy nominations. This came after Reich and the team held a traditional “For Your Consideration” event in May to build momentum among Academy voters.

The snub reflects ongoing challenges for independent streaming platforms to gain recognition from established entertainment institutions. While Dropout has demonstrated commercial viability and built a loyal audience, the lack of Emmy nominations underscores the competitive landscape for digital-native platforms seeking mainstream industry validation and prestige from traditional awards bodies.
