‘The Internet Did the Internet’ — Dwayne Johnson Laughs Off Live-Action Moana Wig Memes
Dwayne Johnson’s wig has become the unlikely star of internet meme culture following the release of the live-action Moana remake trailer. Online commenters have launched a humorous campaign joking that the hairpiece deserves its own film credit, with popular jokes describing it as simultaneously battling gravity, wind, and “its own contract obligations.”
The meme trend has gained such momentum that even established entertainers have contributed to the joke. Parody musician Weird Al Yankovic, who himself sports distinctive long, curly locks, shared his own comedic take, quipping about continuing casting pitches for a potential Weird Al biopic sequel.
Johnson has responded to the viral commentary with apparent good humor. According to Variety, the actor is laughing off the memes rather than taking offense, demonstrating a lighthearted response to the widespread internet commentary surrounding his appearance in the live-action remake.
