Toys for Bob Open to Making a Banjo-Kazooie Game

Toys for Bob, the studio behind successful revivals of Crash Bandicoot and the upcoming Spyro: A Realm Beyond, has expressed significant interest in developing a new Banjo-Kazooie game. During an interview with Kinda Funny Games featuring Associate Creative Director Louis Studdert and Studio Head Paul Yan, the developers spoke passionately about their desire to work on the classic platformer series.

“It’s a franchise we love,” the team stated, adding that “Banjo’s top of the heap” for platformer fans. When asked about the possibility, they responded: “If the opportunity ever arose, that would be amazing.”

Toys for Bob has proven expertise in reviving beloved 90s mascot platformers. The studio previously developed Crash Bandicoot 4 and is currently working on Spyro: A Realm Beyond, scheduled for release across major consoles and PC in Spring 2027. Both projects demonstrate the studio’s commitment to honoring classic franchises while modernizing them for contemporary audiences.

Banjo-Kazooie, originally developed by Rare for the Nintendo 64, has not received a new mainline entry in decades. However, the franchise maintains a dedicated fanbase from longtime players and has attracted new audiences through Banjo’s inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The character’s continued presence in Nintendo’s fighting game has kept the series relevant in gaming culture.

While Toys for Bob’s interest is clear, such a project would require coordination with Microsoft/Xbox Game Studios, who currently owns the Banjo-Kazooie intellectual property following Xbox’s acquisition of Rare. No official announcement has been made regarding a new Banjo game, and the studio’s immediate focus remains on completing Spyro: A Realm Beyond.
